Tennessee Valley Regional Housing Authority
A message from the Executive Director
On behalf of our board, the employees and the families that we serve; welcome to the Tennessee Valley Regional Housing Authority website! TVRHA is a regional housing authority covering ten counties located in Northeast Mississippi. Our ultimate goal is to serve the people and communities within our jurisdiction to the best of our ability.
TVRHA operates two main assisted housing programs within the ten-county area. The first is the Multifamily Program. The second is the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program.
In the Multifamily Program, the family rents a home directly from the housing authority. They receive a reduced rent based on their income. They must qualify on the basis of income and must undergo background checks for rental and criminal history.
In the HCV program, the family rents a home of their choosing directly from a private owner. The family pays for a portion of the rent based on their income. They must qualify for housing assistance on the basis of income and must undergo a background check for criminal history. The private owner determines whether the family is eligible to lease the private rental unit from the owner.
There are also programs that assist families with home ownership and achieving self-sufficiency. The Mortgage Assistance Program (MAP) allows a family to receive housing assistance to pay for a portion of their monthly mortgage based on their income. The Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) program helps families to achieve self sufficiency through counseling and goal achievement.
As you can see, TVRHA is striving to assist families with low incomes within our jurisdiction to be able to afford decent housing. It is ultimately our honor and mission to help those families be able to live a fuller and richer life by providing not just housing, but a home that is decent, safe, and affordable.
